No. You can't get a Claude certification for free. Anthropic's four certifications are proctored exams that cost between $99 and $175 per attempt. What Anthropic does give away is training: 28 free courses on Claude Academy, each ending in a completion badge. A badge and a certification prove different things, so know which one you hold before you put it on a CV.
Free and paid, side by side
| What | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Academy courses (28) | Free | A completion badge per course |
| Exam guides for all four exams | Free | The full blueprint and sample questions |
| On-time renewal of a certification | Free | Another 12 months of certified status |
| Associate (Foundations), CCAO-F | $99 | Proctored certification |
| Architect (Foundations), CCAR-F | $125 | Proctored certification |
| Developer (Foundations), CCDV-F | $125 | Proctored certification |
| Architect (Professional), CCAR-P | $175 | Proctored certification |
The fees come from each exam's v1.0 guide. The price at checkout can be lower, because it reflects your organisation's partner-tier discount. The fee applies to every attempt, so a retake costs the same again.
What Claude Academy gives you
Claude Academy is Anthropic's free learning site. It describes itself as "free courses, tutorials, and use cases from Anthropic's education team". It lists 28 courses as of November 2026. Each one is a set of short lessons, many with video, followed by a quiz. Pass it and you get a completion badge.
Anyone can take them; you don't need to work for a partner organisation. Some need a Claude account, and the API courses need an API key. Each course page says what you need.
A few examples, with the sizes their course pages give:
- Claude 101: 13 lessons and a quiz, about 2.5 hours. Using Claude for everyday work.
- AI Fluency: Framework and foundations: 14 lessons and a quiz, about 4 hours. How to work with AI well, whatever the tool.
- Building with the Claude API: 67 lessons and 8 quizzes, about 9 hours. The biggest course on the site. It expects Python and an API key.
- Introduction to Model Context Protocol: 10 lessons and a quiz, about an hour.
- Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in Action: about two and a half hours between them. We cover these two in Does Anthropic offer a Claude Code certification?
A completion badge isn't a certification
The difference is how the result is checked.
A completion badge says you finished a course and passed its quiz. You take the quiz on your own, with no proctor watching. It shows you did the training, not how you perform under exam conditions.
A certification says you passed a timed exam under supervision. You sit it through Pearson VUE, online with a webcam proctor or at a test centre. You accept a non-disclosure agreement before you start, and notes, phones and second screens aren't allowed. Pass, and you get a digital certification badge through Credly. The credential is valid for 12 months.
On a CV or LinkedIn, call each one what it is. "Completed Building with the Claude API (Claude Academy)" is accurate and still worth listing. "Claude certified" means one of the four exams.
Do the free courses prepare you for the exams?
Partly. No exam requires them. The Associate, Developer and Professional guides each state there are "no mandatory prerequisites" and that the credential "is awarded based on exam performance alone". The Architect (Foundations) guide lists no required course either. You can skip the courses. They're still a good way to build the hands-on experience each guide recommends.
Here's which courses fit which exam. This is our reading of each guide's domains, not a list Anthropic publishes:
| Exam | Free courses that fit |
|---|---|
| Associate (Foundations) | Claude 101, AI Fluency: Framework and foundations |
| Developer (Foundations) | Building with the Claude API, Claude Code 101, Introduction to Model Context Protocol, Tool use with the Messages API |
| Architect (Foundations) | Claude Code in Action, Introduction to Model Context Protocol, Introduction to agent skills, Introduction to subagents, Building with the Claude API |
| Architect (Professional) | Building with the Claude API, Model Context Protocol: Advanced topics, The AI-native SDLC playbook |
The courses don't follow the exam blueprint. They don't cover every task statement, and they don't give you scenario questions that test judgement at exam pace.
Who can sit the exams
Pearson VUE's page for the programme says certification "is open to organizations in the Claude Partner Network". You register through Anthropic's Partner Academy, pay, and then book the exam with Pearson VUE. If your organisation isn't a partner, that route is closed for now.

What's free on this site
This site is an independent study site. These parts of it are free for all four exams:
- Lessons, one for each part of the exam guide. Each has an exam trap, a practice scenario and a build exercise.
- A quick reference and a glossary for every domain.
- A diagnostic that shows which domains you're weakest in.
The full-length mock exams and drill mode are a one-time purchase per exam. There's no subscription.
Start from your exam's page: Associate (Foundations), Developer (Foundations), Architect (Foundations) or Architect (Professional).
