Claude Code Certification: Does Anthropic Offer One? (2026)

Anthropic has no standalone Claude Code certification. Here's which of its exams test Claude Code, which one tests it most, and what the free courses give you.

No. As of September 2026, Anthropic doesn't run a certification exam dedicated to Claude Code. What it runs is four proctored Claude certifications. One tests Claude Code heavily, one lightly, one names it once as an example, and the fourth doesn't mention it. Anthropic also publishes two free Claude Code courses that end in a completion badge.

If you want a credential that proves you can configure and run Claude Code, sit the Claude Certified Architect (Foundations) exam. About a fifth of its questions are on Claude Code, and two of its six scenarios are built around it.

Weights and fees come from each exam's v1.0 guide. The price at checkout can be lower, because it reflects your organisation's partner-tier discount. The four exams are only open to people at Claude Partner Network organisations (more on that below). The courses are open to anyone.

Architect (Foundations): the closest thing to a Claude Code certification

Domain 3 of the Architect (Foundations) exam is called Claude Code Configuration & Workflows, and it carries 20% of the marks. Only Agentic Architecture, at 27%, weighs more. The exam guide splits it into six task statements:

  1. CLAUDE.md hierarchy, scoping and modular organisation
  2. Custom slash commands and skills
  3. Path-specific rules for conditional convention loading
  4. Plan mode versus direct execution
  5. Iterative refinement techniques
  6. Integrating Claude Code into CI/CD pipelines

The 20% is Domain 3's share of scored questions, but Claude Code is also the setting for questions from other domains. The exam is built from scenarios: you get four, drawn at random from a bank of six. Two of the six are about Claude Code by name, "Code Generation with Claude Code" and "Claude Code for Continuous Integration". A third, "Developer Productivity with Claude", lists Claude Code Configuration & Workflows as one of its primary domains. You don't know which four you'll get, so you can't skip it.

That's why it's the exam to aim for if Claude Code is your day job. It tests a few specifics, such as the -p flag that stops a Claude Code job hanging in CI while it waits for input. Mostly, though, it asks what you'd do. Should a team convention live in the project's CLAUDE.md or in one developer's user-level file? When is plan mode worth the extra step? The CI scenario goes as far as asking how to stop an automated review job burying a pull request in false positives.

Developer (Foundations): on the exam, but it won't decide it

The Developer exam gives Claude Code a domain of its own, then weights it at 3.1%. That's a small number for a long list. Claude Code Operation covers the core components (rules, skills, commands, agents and agent memory), session management, built-in and custom slash commands, headless and streaming modes, auto-mode, the CLAUDE.md hierarchy, repository initialisation and settings.json.

Some of that comes back elsewhere. CLAUDE.md files and settings.json appear again under Configuration Management, worth 4.1%, and the guide's candidate profile expects you to "operate Claude Code for codebase modernization". But a third of this exam is Applications and Integration. Knowing Claude Code well helps on the Developer exam. It won't carry you. The Developer exam guide has the full blueprint.

Professional and Associate: barely, then not at all

The Architect (Professional) guide names Claude Code once, as an example. Its Developer Productivity & Operational Enablement domain, worth 7%, includes configuring "Claude tools and environments for teams (e.g., Claude Code)".

The Associate (Foundations) guide doesn't mention Claude Code at all. It's the programme's non-developer credential.

Anthropic's free Claude Code courses

If you want to learn Claude Code properly and have something to show for it, Anthropic's Claude Academy has two free Claude Code courses:

  • Claude Code 101: about an hour and a half, 12 lessons and a quiz. What Claude Code is, how it works, and the core workflows.
  • Claude Code in Action: about an hour, 9 lessons and a quiz. Steering long sessions with plan mode and rewind, configuring Claude through CLAUDE.md, skills and permission modes, automating work with scheduled routines and GitHub, and packaging a setup as a plugin.

Each ends in a completion badge. That's proof you finished a course, not a proctored certification, so describe it that way on a CV. As groundwork for Domain 3 of the Architect exam, though, they're worth the two and a half hours.

"Claude Code certification" courses from other sites

Search for a Claude Code certification and you'll find courses and practice tests sold under that name. Some may be decent training. Whatever the listing says, though, the certificate comes from the company selling the course. Anthropic's programme, as listed on Pearson VUE's Anthropic page, has four exams, and none of them is a Claude Code exam.

Who can sit the exams

Pearson VUE's page states that certification "is open to organizations in the Claude Partner Network". You register through Anthropic's Partner Academy, pay at checkout, then book the exam with Pearson VUE, either online or at a test centre. If your organisation isn't a partner, that route is closed for now.

The preparation isn't. The full Architect (Foundations) curriculum on this site is free, Domain 3 included.

How to prepare for the Claude Code questions

Start with the Domain 3 lessons. They follow the six task statements in order, and each one has exam traps, a practice scenario and a build exercise. Then:
